What is MonaLisa Touch?

MonaLisa Touch is a laser treatment that is used on women who experience sexual dysfunction and uncomfortable symptoms associated with menopause. Using fractional CO2 laser energy, this procedure can revitalize vaginal tissue. If you suffer from vaginal discomfort, such as dryness, burning, painful intercourse and/or urinary incontinence, this treatment may be perfect for you.

How does MonaLisa Touch work?

As women age, their bodies stop producing collagen and elastin, which results in less elasticity and hydration of the skin and vagina. MonaLisa Touch’s CO2 laser works by increasing blood flow and stimulating increased collagen production in the vaginal walls. This helps to rehydrate, improve blood flow and restore vaginal tissue pH and health. With more elasticity and restored function, the vast majority of patients experience significant improvement in their troublesome itching, irritation and pain, particularly during intercourse. Treatments are minimally-invasive and do not require any surgery or downtime.

What can I expect during the procedure?

The procedure only takes a few minutes. A small vaginal probe is inserted into the vagina. The laser will use CO2 energy first to treat the internal vaginal tissue. Most patients will then have their external labial tissue treated as well to reduce external irritative symptoms. Patients report little to no discomfort during treatments, but a topical numbing cream is applied for 10 minutes prior to the external treatment as a precaution against discomfort. You may feel small vibrations. We usually recommend 3 treatments, 6 weeks apart, followed by an annual maintenance treatment.

What can I expect from the results?

After a 3-session treatment, the results may last for up to one year. Results vary, however, depending on the severity of vaginal atrophy. We recommend waiting 2-3 days after treatment to resume sexual activity. Most patients report a reduction in dryness, burning sensation, painful intercourse and urinary symptoms.
