Colonoscopy

An outpatient procedure done under IV sedation to examine the colon for polyps or other abnormalities. Patient will need to clean out the large intestine (colon) with a clear liquid diet and prescription bowel preparation. Polyps and other masses may be removed and biopsies can be taken. Common reasons for this test are colon cancer screening, chronic diarrhea, change in bowel habits, iron deficiency and rectal bleeding.
