Dr. Steven DiLauro is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.  He was raised in Carlsbad and graduated from San Dieguito High School.  Dr. DiLauro received his undergraduate degree in Physiological Sciences at UCLA and his medical degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing.  He completed residency training in internal medicine at the University of New Mexico and a gastroenterology fellowship at the Scripps Clinic.

Dr. DiLauro is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American College of Gastroenterology.  He has co-authored several publications and presentations for scientific journals and conferences.  He enjoys “all aspects of gastrointestinal and liver disease” with particular interest in colon cancer prevention, disorders of the esophagus, and inflammatory bowel disease. He is married and has two daughters.

Dr. DiLauro is fluent in medical Spanish.

I would recommend Dr. DiLauro to all my friends and family any day! I found him based on his area of expertise, reviews and reasonable availability (forget Scripps and Sharp short wait line to schedule any visit and/or procedure). He is concise, straightforward and professional. I never felt rushed and he listened to everything i said. Office staff was very nice and friendly. The Endoscopy center staff was beyond outstanding. The best experience overall .

The visit with Dr DiLauro was quick but thorough. He answered all my questions. He was also very kind, even advising a little on a medical issue I didn’t technically see him for but that may need to be addressed by another specialty… this was very helpful to me. Staff were friendly and efficient. Check-in and appointment itself went very smoothly. Office and exam room were pristine with helpful technologies. I believe I will be in good hands having my colonoscopy done by Dr DiLauro.

From our first conversation, I was very impressed with Dr. Dilauro's manners and professionalism! I was very sick when I was referred to him, which made me extremely nervous. He immediately calmed my nerves! He did a very detailed intake. There was no rushing or talking above my head. The procedures that he suggested I undergo were explained in a non-rushed and in clear details. After having my procedures, my recovery time was painless & quick. Great staff, great doctor. I have had the same procedure multiple times, each from a different doctor, and I have to say that when I went into it this time I was dreading every second. Yesterday I had a colonopospy performed by Dr. Dilauro. From my first meeting with Dr. Dilauro, discussing the need for the procedure, everything went well. The staff were efficient, helpful and conscientious. The facility was excellent. The procedure went well in every respect. There was no discomfort after the procedure. Due to the efficiency of the staff, from the time I arrived and left was about 2 hours. Dr. Dilauro was highly recommended by friends, and, considering my experience, I also would highly recommend Dr. Dilauro.

As a patient with a lot of medical "issues", I've met dozens of doctors over the last 14 yrs and I think I'm qualified in offering recommendations. I went to Dr. Steven Dilauro for a colonoscopy at Gastroenterology. The whole experience was great--considering it was on my birthday and it was a colonoscopy! :) The whole staff was attentive and friendly and they all made me feel at ease and safe. My husband had two procedures today by Dr. DiLauro at Scripps Encinitas. I can not recommend this doctor enough. In a day of what I refer to as the " 5 minute driveby conversation" which I am afraid happens all to often these days , Dr. DiLauro took the time to make sure we both understood all that was involved in the two procedures as well as answer any questions that either of us had at the time. Dr. DiLauro is not only a very well respected doctor in his field but a truly compassionate and personable individual. Go see him!

Dr. Dilauro has wonderful bedside manner, is caring, professional knowledgeable. The staff at the endoscopy clinic were truly wonderful. The nurses were very sweet, caring and assuring. My appointment could not have gone better. In and out in 2 hours and everything went as promised. I will see you guys again in 5 years (and I hope by then I won't remember the disgusting liquid prep). Can't you guys come up with a pill and then we just drink some water? Seriously, it is hideous.

Who can say they had an amazing experience while having an endoscopy and a colonoscopy on the *same* day?? Me, that's who. Dr. Dilauro and his staff are truly remarkable professionals who seem to really care, and it shows from the initial consultation to the time you wake up. They listened to what went wrong last time at a different doctor's office, and did everything the right way. In 10 years when I have to go back for another colonoscopy, I will choose only Dr. Dilauro's office.

Hi is the best gastro. I swiched gastros because i wan not getting the explanations i needed and needed another medication for my cramps. Told my old gastro the hysocamine was not woking..did not offer me another med. Went to my primary and they prescribed Bentyl- it is specially for IBS. Why didn't my old gastro do that. I did not get things explained to me like Dr. Dilaura does. I had gone to him in tears because this IBS has torn up my life, lost my job, can't do a lot of things sick a lot. He supports me on the Bentyl He comforted me saying I have seen a lot of people in your situation and we are learning more and more about IBS and there is hope. Great to hear never heard those words from old gastro. Also brought in some research from Cedars Sinai where a dr. is working on an antibiotic for IBS and he knows of the doctor and all his research and put me on the antibiotic. it helped a lot. I felt i was just dropped not cared about at the other gastro and here i believe the dr. is working hard to find solutions. He also put me on gluten gastro free diet. its like the other gastro gave up. I believe in 2nd 3rd opinions been the other medical situation for 2 years being misdiagnosed til finally i was correctly diagnosed. Dr. Dilauro listens to you and has a great bedside manner and is truly trying to help youwhat i did not find else where.

I recently visited Doctor DiLauro for a consultation visit and so far he has proven to be an excellent internist. He is very patient and was willing to answer any of my questions until they were fully exhausted. It possibly was the longest doctors visit I ever had- he definitely did not rush me out the door. I have no doubt he has an interest in my health and care for my well being. I look forward to having him as my doctor throughout my lifetime effort against this chronic disease. I highly recommend Dr. DiLauro for your gastrointestinal needs.
