Philip Butler, MD, FACS


Dr. Butler is certified by the American Board of Urology and has been honored as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). A Founding member of Genesis Healthcare Providers, he has been practicing with The Coast Urology Division since 1986.

He attended the University Of Oregon, and then graduated with honors at the University of California, Irvine. He earned his Medical Doctorate from New York Medical College before returning to California to complete his 6 year residency training in Surgery and Urology at The University of California, San Diego Medical Center. His medical peers have selected him multiple times as a TOP DOCTOR in San Diego.

Dr. Butler is presently chairman of the Section of Urology at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla and has offices on the campus of both Scripps Memorial hospitals, in La Jolla and Encinitas.

Dr. Butler has specialized in less invasive surgical techniques for Kidney stones and prostate disease: Including the use of LASER therapy and hyperthermia (Greenlight laser, Prostiva and Microwave).

He is pioneering the use of Prostatic Implants (Urolift) , a revolutionary new treatment for BPH – Benign Prostate Hyperplasia. He is commonly able to perform these in the office setting under local anesthesia.

Dr. Butler has extensive experience in prostate cancer, Botox and Nerve Stimulation Incontinence therapy, Laparoscopy and sexual dysfunction.

He is active in clinical research through our Genesis Research Division.
